About Us

Our Story

Exmouth Chapel began life in 1847 as part of the Brethren movement of the 1800s. The movement sought for churches to be governed by the patterns that can be found in the Bible. Our guiding principles still reflect this.

Today, we continue to believe that the good news of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is not only true and relevant but also deeply fulfilling and life-changing.

For that reason our services are accessible and centred around the good news of Jesus Christ from the Bible in a way that encourages the faith of those who follow Jesus and enables others to explore the Christian faith.

We aim to be a church that:

Loves God: Glorifying God the Father as we joyfully respond to his Word, depend on Him and delight in Him.

Loves the Gospel: Seeing the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ transforming every aspect of our lives and the lives of others.

Loves People: Growing together by the power of God’s Spirit, a blessing to the wider church and to others.

What we believe

We are an independent church that seeks to build our church life around the Bible. The following are some of the key things we believe:

The Bible is the inspired word of God. It is our infallible guide and supreme authority on all matters of belief and practice.

There is one God, the creator of Heaven and Earth, existing in three Persons - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ the Son of God, was born of a virgin, he led a sinless life, died on the Cross as a sacrifice for sinners, was raised from the dead, ascended into Heaven, and is coming again.

God the Holy Spirit dwells within those who trust Christ.

All mankind has sinned, and salvation is obtained only through repentance and faith in Christ.

We practise believers’ baptism, and communion, as found in the Bible.
